Beginning with the ancient Greeks and continuing through the middle ages, people believed everything was made of four basic elements: air (aer), earth (terra), fire (ignis) and water (aqua).  Photographer Howard Frisk has created a photographic series that illustrates some of the ways that we humans can experience each of the four elements. 

Air - by letting the wind blow through your hair

Earth - by squishing a handful of rich soil in your hands

Water - by having water pour down your face

Fire - by feeling the heat from flames close to your face
